WORTHING PORTRAIT ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2022
The Worthing Portrait Artist of the Year competion 2022 will once again take place at The Venue, Worthing. A unique event of live portraiture, the competition is now the highlight of the Sussex Arts Calendar and will take place on Friday October 21st.

WORTHING PORTRAIT ARTIST OF THE YEAR COMPETITIONFULL TERMS & CONDITIONSPlease read our Terms & Conditions before making your application. By submitting your portrait to The Venue, Worthing, you are agreeing to accept these Terms & Conditions and you acknowledge that the Terms & Conditions may be changed (whether verbally, in writing or otherwise) by the Organiser at any time at their sole discretion.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION: THE EVENT, PRIZE AND JUDGINGThe Worthing Portrait Artist of the Year will be an exciting evening of live portraiture.This year will see a limited number of 9 local portrait artists being offered the chance to create in public. Selected artists will each produce a portrait of one of 3 sitters over the course of an evening. The event will be open to the public. Sitters will be announced in due course.This not-to-be-missed event will be open to all. Members of the public will be able to observe the artists at work, and watch as portraits take shape before their eyes. The portraits will be judged by a panel, and a favourite selected along with two runners up. The sitters will also choose their favourite, a copy of which will be made for them to take home.The finalists’ portraits will be used for marketing and will be exhibited on the website and social media prior to the event. The originals will be on display at the event after which they can be taken home.The competition will be open to anyone over the age of 18 living within a 20 mile radius of BN11, who must submit via email a portrait they have created in the last 3 years. The originals must be available for display on the night, Friday 21st October 2022. THE JUDGESTo be announced. At least one/two judges will be independent of The Venue, Worthing. The judges’ decision is final and will be made at the event. Each sitter will also choose their favourite portrait, which they may wish to keep. In this instance it will be up to you to decide to sell the portrait to them or gift it. Each sitter will receive a quality copy of their portraits for them to keep, printed by our sponsor, SubwayEPS. The names of the winning artist and runners up, and those chosen by the sitters, will be announced via social media and on our website.
THE PRIZEThe winner’s prize is to be announced and is non-transferable. There will be two runners up prizes sponsored by Seawhite of Brighton.
ENTERING THE COMPETITIONThe Application Process:- email 1 still image of your portraiture work to wpaoty@gmail.com to arrive no later than 12 noon on Friday 1st July 2022- your chosen piece of work must have been created within the last 3 years and be your own work- the original to be submitted for exhibition on Friday 21st October 2022- the image should be in JPEG format/300 dpi or max 2MB and clearly labelled with your name (and image title if you have one)- you must be available on Friday 21st October 2022 from 4.30 - 11.00pm- you are asked to supply all your own materials, including an easel - Entry is not confirmed until the £10 entry fee has been received. You can pay this via Paypal to wpaoty@gmail.com. Please make your payment as cash or friends/family to avoid us paying a transaction fee. Thank you.

ABOUT YOUR ENTRYPlease make sure that the image you provide to The Venue, Worthing, is owned by yourself. Any material submitted by you must not infringe any applicable laws or contain inappropriate content (such as indecent, offensive, defamatory or threatening material).
Entries received after the date and time outlined above will not be considered nor with entries received from out of area. Entries submitted without the £10 entry fee will not be put forward. The Organiser reserves the right in their absolute discretion to extend the Closing Date for a reasonable period of time where an insufficient number of the entries received have satisfied the entry and judging criteria, and in these circumstances, the date on which they elect to close the Competition shall be the Closing Date.
Please note: confirmation of emailing an entry does not necessarily mean that we have received it due to circumstances out of our control, i.e. IT issues, wrong email address, etc.
We reserve the right to disqualify your entry if:a. Your entry is incomplete;b. You do not meet the entry criteria;c. You are not eligible to enter the Competition;d. You cannot be contactede. You do not pay the entry fee
PUBLICITYArtists/participants are expected to contribute to the positive promotion of The Venue, Worthing, and the Event, using The Venue, Worthing branded promotional material.
When producing your own promotion/publicity materials, Artists must include the official Venue Worthing and Event logos. These can be obtained by contacting wpaoty@gmail.com.
COPYRIGHT AND USE OF MATERIALSArtists/participants agree to their images being used in selected promotional materials (including website, social networks and other media) unless agreed otherwise. The Venue, Worthing reserves the right to use selected images and copy for promotional activities other than the leaflet and website in order to promote the Event as appropriate to the medium that the promotional activity is due to be published.
Please make sure that any text, graphics, photos or other media that you provide to The Venue, Worthing, and any third party is owned by yourself.
DELIVERY OF YOUR ART WORKThe 9 successful finalists will be required to bring their portraits to The Venue on Wednesday 19th October between 11.00am and 2.00pm. If, for any reason, you are not able to deliver your work then, please liaise with the Organiser ahead of time to agree an alternative time.
The portraits must be clearly labelled and ready to hang. Any work not ready to hang will automatically incur a £5 fee on delivery to cover time and costs on the part of the Organiser.
COVID-19Hopefully Covid will no longer influence proceedings, but in the event of unforeseen circumstances the Organiser retains the right to reschedule the event and all finalists will be notified accordingly.
TICKETSIn order to manage appropriate numbers attending, the event will be ticketed. Tickets will be available to purchase online a month before the event. Each finalist may be accompanied by one adult. Any other friends/family must purchase a ticket.
CHANGES TO THE TERMS & CONDITIONSThe Organiser reserves the right to make changes to these Terms & Conditions. All changes will be posted on social media, and where appropriate, all artists will be notified by email. This version is dated 30/03/2022.

WORTHING PORTRAIT ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2021
The Worthing Portrait Artist of the Year competition 2021 took place at The Venue, Worthing on Friday 22nd October. The competition was organised and hosted by The Venue's wonderfully talented Arts Curator Cathy Verney. The evening was a huge success from start to finish with everyone commenting on what an amazing evening it had been for all those involved and all those who attended for this unique experience. The whole event was filmed for broadcast by Brighton Television and Media company Lastest TV.
The Worthing Portrait Arist of the Year 2021 was Dominic Simpson with his portrait of the world's most prolific art forger Billy 'The Brush' Mumford. Second place was Jake Fern, Sarah Reeve was third, followed by David Pople, Richard Smith, Tony King, Russ Iden, Vanessa Reynolds and Carole Morris. The wonderful and very patient sitters were, Peter James, the world's number one best selling author, Shani Struthers, renowned author of 23 supernatural thrillers, and Billy 'The Brush' Mumford. The judging panel was led by the world's most sought after art forger David Henty, alongside Mike La-Traille, photographer and Gallery owner and Cathy Verney, The Venue's art curator, photographer and Gallery owner and host of the Portrait Artist of the Year Competition.TVnd edit me.
